Dr. Guowen Ding

Founder and Chief Scientist 

With a mission to innovate for the benefit of humanity, Dr. Ding founded LabforInvention, providing cutting-edge laboratory services in thin-film coatings, characterization, modeling, advanced materials research, and rapid prototyping.

Dr. Ding was the former principal scientist who led a group on energy-saving window coating to develop future products for the world's leading company in this field. Here are some highlights of Dr. Ding's achievements:

  • 2024 Jun:  The third patent for signal-penetrating low-E technology was granted.

  • 2023 Oct: a research paper was published in a high-impact journal: Journal of the Optical Society of America B, Vol. 40, Issue 10, pp. 2696-2705, (2023)

  • 2023 April: LFI successfully secured NSF seed funding.

  • 2022 May: Dr. Ding and Mr. He “Mobile Signal Enabled Energy Efficient Window Technology” at the 65th Annual SVC Technical Conference, Long Beach, CA.

  • 2020 Jun: LFI relocated to our new facility in Fremont. 

  • 2018 July, Dr. Ding presented at the International Conference On Lasers, Optics, and Photonics, Osaka, Japan July 25-26, 2018

  • 2018 June: LFI completed the first materials study service,  multiple new materials developments for Roche, one of the largest biotech companies.

  • 2018 April: LFI moved to a new facility in Sunnyvale.

  • 2018 March: LFI achieved significant milestones by servicing ten industry customers.

  • 2018 Feb: At NCCAVS 39th annual Symposia & Exhibitions, Dr. Ding presented "Can a new materials innovation in thin film optical applications be faster and cheaper?"

  • 2017 Nov: A new energy-efficient window prototype with 86% transmission was successfully developed.

  • 2017 Nov: New materials Ti-Ag alloys were created,  characterized, and presented at the 8th International Conference and Exhibition on Lasers, Optics & Photonics,

  • 2017 Nov: LFI's World-Class Metrology tools generated first service revenue.
